Located in Strafford County, New Hampshire, Durham is situated next to Great Bay at the Oyster River. The town is dominated by the University of New Hampshire, which is located in Durhams’s downtown area. Durham’s beautiful landscape and its seacoast location, provide many recreational sites and activities including sailing, boating, swimming and fishing. Among its most notable sites is Adams Point, an estuary located on Great Bay offering walking trails, woods, beaches and glimpses of wildlife. Located on Oyster River is the Oyster River Landing / Shipyard Landing, where swans and great blue herons can be spotted. Durham contains 22.4 square miles of land and 2.4 square miles of water and lies completely within the Piscataqua River watershed. As of the census of 2000, Durham was home to 12,664 residents, 2,882 households, and 1,582 families. Durham Real Estate and Homes: In 2007, it was estimated that Durham’s population was 13,684.
